Announcing the latest recipient for the Free Speech But award!
Judge Hendrik Steenhuis, of the Netherlands, was the presiding judge over a three-member panel hearing the hate speech case against Dutch politician Geert Wilders. The justices found Wilders guilty of “insulting a group”.
“Freedom of speech is one of the foundations of our democratic society…[but] freedom of speech can be limited, for example to protect the rights and freedoms of others, and that is what this case is about.”
